Repair suitability
Not every chip can—or should—be repaired.
Suitability depends on the type, depth, size and position of the damage, as well as contamination and whether cracking has already begun. A visual assessment is the starting point, followed by an in-person inspection before work is confirmed.
What affects the repair decision?
- Chip size and shape
- Distance from the glass edge
- Damage in the driver’s viewing area
- Number of impact points
- Moisture, dust or previous contamination
- Cracks extending from the impact
What to do after a stone impact
Avoid pressing the damaged area. Keep it as clean and dry as reasonably possible, avoid sudden temperature changes and arrange an assessment promptly. Repair is intended to stabilize suitable damage; it may not make the impact completely invisible.
Repair versus replacement
